You want effective, cost efficient counselling. There’s been an explosion of research in the last twenty years into adult love relationships. We know what happens in the brain when love goes well and when it goes wrong. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, or EFT, is based on this research.

ICEEFT (The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) is the certifying body for EFT therapists

Couples In Step therapists are EFT therapists. Each Couples In Step therapist has completed an EFT externship and has a goal of EFT certification within 3 -5 years of joining Couples In Step. The EFT training process is rigorous and standardized by ICEEFT.

Typically very distressed couples come to a 3-Day Couples Counselling Intensive. The 3-Day Intensive is not a group program. You, your partner, and the Couples In Step therapist, Irene Oudyk-Suk, are the only ones present. The 3-Day Intensive takes place either on line or in person in Toronto or Kingston.

The online 3-Day Intensive takes place over 3 consecutive days, usually a Sunday – Tuesday. Because the 3-Day Intensive is offered online couples from all over Ontario are able to access this service.

The in person 3-Day Intensive takes place in Toronto beginning mid Friday afternoon and ending mid Sunday afternoon.

Couples In Step offers online and in-person retreats. There are two options: an emotional connection focus (Hold Me Tight), and a touch and physical connection focus.

Some couples come to a retreat wanting to deepen their relationship. Some want to rediscover the connection they once had. For some, a couples retreat is an alternative to couples therapy. You do not need to speak in the group if you do not wish to.

Between 7-14 couples attend a retreat. Couples are sometimes anxious about the group nature of a retreat. There is ample private couple time and you are not required to be an active participant during the larger group times. The larger group is for the facilitator,

Couples who arrive for marriage counselling in my Toronto office sometimes tell me they saw another counsellor and it didn’t help, but that their relationship has improved since they have been seeing me. I understand how marriages can become challenging when couples can fall out of love, and have discovered marriage counselling techniques to help them recreate loving feelings.

I have done relationship counselling with blended families, to help them understand how to improve communications and learn how to put the relationship first for the ultimate good of both them and the children (really, modelling a good marriage is the absolute best thing you can do for your kids). I know that it’s even possible, with good marriage counselling, to rebuild a strong marriage or relationship after an affair.

People tell me I’m open, caring, friendly and direct, and maybe that’s why I went into the field of marriage counselling and other areas of helping people in in my downtown Toronto office. I’m very comfortable discussing what may be difficult topics for you, such as marriage, couples and relationship issues, depression and anxiety, sexuality, and through counselling, finding ways to make your relationships better.
