Visitors to Riverdale Park East can enjoy winter tobogganing, views of the downtown Toronto skyline, playing sports on the various fields and courts, ice skating, ball hockey, picnicking, and using the children's playground. There are also recreational trails for walking in the naturalized area at the north end of the park.

In 1990, native trees and shrubs were planted on the north side of the park, which has since developed into mature woodland. In 2002, a small marsh was added to collect and clean storm water and provide habitat for native plants and animals. Volunteers have helped plant trees, shrubs, flowers, sedges, and rushes in the marsh site to create diverse habitats and ecological resilience.

Facilities at Riverdale Park East may be available for permit, with rates dependent on facility rating and group category. Visitors can use the Facility Classifications and Rating Criteria to learn more about available amenities and contact the park prior to their visit to determine if the facility can meet their needs.

During the summer, visitors can check the Drop-In Programs tab for hours at the outdoor pool, while in the winter, they can check for hours at the outdoor rink. The park is popular for winter tobogganing and offers views of the downtown Toronto skyline.
